Bear vs Vehicle Crash on I-80 in Pine Creek Twp.

car-accident-graphic-5254_jpg_475x310_q85-300x225PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say around 11:10 p.m. on September 25, a one-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80 West, at the 87.4 mile marker, in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 51-year-old Jesus M. Martinez, of Bronx, NY, was traveling west on I-80 in the right lane, and a bear ran in front of his 2010 Ford Escape from the medial, and Martinez was unable to avoid it.

The driver’s side front of the vehicle struck the bear, which ran north into the woods, police say.

Martinez pulled his vehicle over onto the north berm after impact with the bear, according to police.

Martinez and four passengers were using seat belts and were not injured.
