Benefit Dinner Slated for Family Who Lost Home to Fire

VOWINCKEL, Pa. (EYT) — The outpouring of support for the Summers family, who lost their home recently in a recent fire in Vowinckel, has been nothing short of miraculous.

“The house is a total loss, but that’s OK,” said homeowner Rory Summers on a Facebook post Saturday. “It’s just amazing, it’s hard for me to explain. So, thank you to all of you. It’s gonna be a rough road, it really stings, but we’re OK. My kids are safe, my wife’s safe, I’m safe, the dog’s safe, so we’re OK.

“I truly don’t know how to put into words how amazing everyone’s been. I can’t believe the support and the love we’ve received. Donating food and money and clothes, bringing them to my parent’s house.”

“We were out to get my new glasses and my insurance covers the frames, but not the lens, and the doctor just gave us them. We’re standing in line talking to the doctor and people hear our story and they are giving us money.”

“We’re completely overwhelmed, you couldn’t get this anywhere else. There’s a reason why, years ago, I made the decision to stay in my home town. It’s because of the people, the generosity, how everyone takes care of each other.”

“Complete strangers bringing us money and food,” Eileen said.

Fundraising efforts on a gofundme page  https://www.gofundme.com/summers-family-fire have also been remarkable with more than 100 donors pledging $8,405 in just three days.

The community support will continue on January 21 via a benefit dinner for the Summers family at Bettina’s Italian Restaurant in Marienville.

It will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children under 6.

There will also be a chinese auction.
