Benard D PiferBernard D. Pifer, 64, Big Run, PA, Henderson Township, suddenly passed away at home Thursday, January 19, 2017.

He was born October 15, 1952 in DuBois, a son of the late Max Pifer, Sr. and Avanell Janett (Clouser) Pifer. His mother survives.

Bernard was a 1970 graduate of Jeff Tech.

Following graduation he joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Era.

After his military service he worked for the B&O Railroad, and later worked for Henderson Township for nearly twenty years, serving many of those years as the supervisor. He recently retired from Henderson Township.

His heart belonged to the family farm where he resided with his mother. He loved to garden, and he lovingly tended his animals, which included fourteen head of cattle, his many cats that adored him, and his dogs. He was a gentle soul that enjoyed the simple things in life.

In addition to his mother, Avanell, surviving relatives include two brothers, Max E. Pifer, Jr. and wife Debbie of Henderson Township, and Carl Pifer of Big Run. He has numerous nieces, nephews and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Max E. Pifer Sr.

In accordance to Bernard’s wishes there will be no public visitation. A private funeral service will be held for the family.

Interment will be at Paradise Lutheran Cemetery, Paradise, Henderson Twp, PA.

Memorial donations may be made in Bernard’s memory to the Henderson Township Community Building, c/o Jane Pifer, 655 Rock Dump Road, Reynoldsville, PA 15851.
