Betty J. Spencer

Betty J. Spencer, 91, of Clearfield, Pa., passed away on Monday, Nov. 1, 2021 at Mountain Laurel in Clearfield, Pa.

She was born on January 22, 1930 in Kittanning, Pa., the daughter of T. Charles “Chappie” and Nettie (Moore) Thomas.

Betty lived in the Kittanning and Elderton areas most of her life and was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Trade City, Pa.

She was very creative and designed flowers for Ford’s Flowers, Valley Florist and Brightmeyers.

Betty also worked as a cook for the former IUP campus in Kittanning.

Acting and singing were two of Betty’s passions and she was very active in the Punxsutawney Theater Guild.

She loved cooking and baking, but above all she cherished the time she spent with her family.

Her children and grandchildren will never forget the love she had for them and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel C. Spencer, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Shelocta, Michael W. Spencer and wife, Edna, of Clearfield, and Thomas C. Spencer of Elderton; grandchildren, Erika Talmadge and Shawn Spencer, Michael Jr. and Katrina Spencer, T.J. and Bret Spencer; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Thomas of Maine, Tom Thomas and wife, Carol, of Kittanning, and Jack Thomas and wife, Fran, of Oklahoma; and her sister, Violet Wolfe, of Ohio.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Daniel C. Spencer, Sr. whom she married on June 22, 1948 and who died May 24, 1994 and a daughter-in law, Kim Spencer.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main Street, Elderton, Pa.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Elderton Presbyterian Church, 115 N. Main St., Elderton, Pa., with the Rev. Arlene Schweitzer officiating.

Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild, P.O. Box 152, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
