Betty June “Girty” Shilling

Scan0001Betty June “Girty” Shilling, 91, of Distant, died Monday afternoon, November 30, 2015, at the Clarion Hospital.

She was born on February 27, 1924 in Climax the daughter of Joseph Reno and Mona (Burford) Horne. She married Calvin Shilling on May 20, 1942 and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2010.
Betty and her husband owned Bostonia Farm, Bostonia Dairy, and a dry cleaning store called Careful Cleaners. She was a member of the Distant Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Shilling and his wife Mary Ann of Distant, a daughter, Joan Veronesi and her husband James of Homosassa, Florida, two grandsons, Jeffrey Shilling and his wife Teresa of Distant and Christopher Veronesi and his wife Becky of Tampa, Florida, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a brother, Rubin Horne of the state of Indiana.
In addition to both parents and her husband Calvin, Betty was also preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Anthony, Pearl Smith, and Phyllis Truitt, and one brother, George Horne.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Jay Bucci officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.
