Betty S. Bomboy

Betty S. Bomboy, 88 Lewisburg, Pa; died on July 8, 2015 at the Buffalo Valley Nursing Care Center in Lewisburg, Pa.

She was the daughter of the late Elmer C. and Charlotte Zentz Smith.

A 1944 graduate of Frederick, Md; High School, Betty then graduated from Susquehanna University in 1948. She taught at Lisbon High School in Lisbon, MD. On June 20, 1951 she married The Rev. David E. Bomboy.

Betty assisted her husband in the ministry in the following churches (all in PA): Stoystown, Everett, Breezewood, DuBois, Confluence and Freeburg.

Before retirement she was active in the Women of the ELCA and its predecessor organizations. She was a founding member and coordinator of the New Hope Center for trainable children in Everett, PA. She served on the Turkeyfoot Valley School Board (one term as president) and was a board member of the Somerset County Area Vocational/Technical School.

At Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village she was a member of the Advisory Committee (chair from 2004-2008), the social committee and program committee.

Betty was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lewisburg and served on the outreach committee and Alter Guild. She volunteered as a lector and greeter.

She is survived by her husband David, one daughter Pearl (Tom) Bundy of Brockport, PA; two sons: John Bomboy of Home, PA and Paul (Brenda) Bomboy of Hooversville, PA. She is also survived by two grandchildren Eric (Laura) Bundy of Madison, WI and Linda (Allen) Minns of DuBois, PA; one step-grandchild Michael Layton of Somerset, PA; and one great grandson Colin Bundy of Madison, WI as well as numerous cousins.

Betty is preceded in death by a son James R. Bomboy, a daughter-in-law Nancy Bomboy, and two granddaughers, Amanda Joy and Amy Lynn Bomboy.

The family will provide flowers. A Memorial Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on July 25, 2015 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Lewisburg, PA. Friends and family will be received at the church from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. with worship to follow at 11:00 A.M. We will continue to celebrate Betty’s life at a dinner following the service.
