The PA State Police Fire Marshal and the Sandy Township Fire Department investigated the origin and cause of a fire that destroyed a camp at the above described location.
Police say the occupants of the dwelling were asleep at the time of the fire, and there were no smoke detectors.
An occupant – 55-year-old Timothy L. Jordan, of Kittanning – was awakened when he heard a popping noise and discovered the fire.
Four of the occupants were able to escape the structure without injury.
Jordan attempted to extinguish the fire and was injured from a fall in the process. He was transported by ambulance from the scene, according to police.
Police say the fire was accidental in nature. The camp was heated by a wood stove, and a single wall flue pipe was located too closed to a wood wall member. Heat from the pipe caused the wood wall member to ignite.
The damage is estimated at $65,000.00.
The building owner – 80-year-old George P. Jordan, of Kittanning – was not present at the time of the fire, according to police.
