Boyd J. Taylor

Taylor BoydBoyd J. Taylor age 90, James Street Brockway, PA resident died on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Highland View Health Care in Brockway.

Born on June 18, 1925 in Shawmut, PA; he was the son of the late Frank and Lena Mann Taylor. On March 13, 1955 he was married to Josephine “Joie” LaBue and she survives.

Retired, Boyd had worked at Brockway Glass for 42 years and from 1970 to 1987 he was Head Mould Scheduler which lead up to his retirement.

Boyd was a U.S. Navy, WWII veteran having served on the USS Nevada Battleship as an inside gunner.

He was a member at St. Tobias in Brockway where he served as an usher for many years. Over the years Boyd served as the president of Local 110, served on Brockway Borough council from 1984 to 1989 and became president of the council in 1990, served as the president of the Brockway Ambulance Association for many years, and was a member of the Brockway Volunteer Hose Company and enjoyed helping out with bingo night.

He was a member of the S.O.I. Club and was a member of Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion.

He was a Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Notre Dame fan. One of his favorite past times was sitting on his front porch visiting with his friends and neighbors.

Most importantly, Boyd was an avid family man who never missed any of his childrens or grandchildrens sporting events.

In addition to his wife Joie, he is also survived by 2 daughters: Joni (Lenny) Martino of Brockway; Karen Taylor Camuso of DuBois 2 sons: Jeff Taylor and Joe (Bethe) Taylor both of Brockway; 3 brothers: Mike (Fran) Taylor; Pat (Lois) Taylor both of Brockway and Charlie Taylor of DuBois; 1 sister: Jean Smith also of DuBois; 7 grandchildren: Ryan Camuso, Adam Camuso, Brad Martino, Andy Martino, Jeremy Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Kirsten Taylor and 2 great grandchildren Mia and Luke Martino. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by 5 brothers: Bill “Boot Jack”, Francis, Eddy, James and Jack Taylor; 2 sisters: Gladys Mango and Mary Saunders and an infant sibling.

Calling hours will be on Monday, September 21 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22 at 9:00 AM at St. Tobias Church in Brockway with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held Monday evening at 6:45 PM at the funeral home. Full Military honors will be accorded by Parson-Marnati Post # 95 of the American Legion Tuesday morning at the cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Brockway Ambulance Association or Brockway Volunteer Hose Company.
