Arson Charges Filed Against Brookville Man

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Arson charges have been filed against a Brookville man in connection with a structure fire on Jefferson Street early yesterday morning.

Brookville Police say 46-year-old Scott E. Bennett, of Brookville, is faces one count each of Arson-Danger of Death or Bodily Injury, Criminal Mischief, and Criminal Trespass and two counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, following an investigation into a fire at an apartment building on Jefferson Street in Brookville.

Brookville Fire Company and other area departments were called to the around 1:45 a.m. Thursday. The fire was extinguished quickly and the building sustained minor smoke and water damages.

Following the fire, the PA State Police Fire Marshall was called to assist in the investigation.

Through the course of the investigation it was revealed that the fire was set by Bennett, police say.

Bennett was placed in Jefferson County Jail in leiu of $50,000 bail.

He faces a preliminary hearing on July 29.

Police say the building is owned by a Walston, Florida man.
