Jefferson County Man Facing Murder Charges Following Discovery of Human Remains

shugarsPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – On Sunday, Sept. 15, State Police in Punxsutawney received a report from an area resident of human remains that were located below the bridge near the village of Hamilton in Perry Township, Jefferson County.

Investigators from the Punxsutawney State Police and Troopers from throughout Troop C began a homicide investigation that focused on the identity of the remains.

The victim was determined to be Chet Allen Haddow, 33-years-of-age, of Punxsutawney.

On Monday, Sept. 16, information developed by investigators lead to the arrest of a suspect in the case.

The accused, Michael Christopher Shugars, 32-years-of-age, of Punxsutawney, was charged with the following offenses in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 17:

  • Criminal Homicide
  • Aggravated Assault – Felony 1
  • Robbery – Felony 1
  • Abuse Of Corpse – Misdemeanor 2
  • Simple Assault – Misdemeanor 2
  • Theft By Unlawful Taking – Misdemeanor 3

Shugars is being held without bail in Jefferson County Jail.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Oct. 1.
