Champions Again! Pens Claim Fourth Cup


SAN JOSE – With a 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks Sunday, the Pittsburgh Penguins claimed their fourth Stanley Cup.

Sidney Crosby won the Conn Smythe trophy and had two assists in the clinching game.

Kris Letang’s goal at 7:46 of the second period 1:29 after the Sharks had tied the game on a Logan Couture goal off a Crosby pass was the game winner joining a select group of Penguins who have scored cup-clinching goals (Ulf Samuelsson, Ron Francis and Max Talbot are the others).

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead at 8:16 of the first period on a Brian Dumoulin power-play goal.

Rookie goalie Matt Murray made the lead stand up making 18 saves, although he was only asked to make two in the third period when the Penguins limited the Sharks to two shots.
