Police Determine Apartment Complex Fire Caused by Arson

Red FiretruckPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – The Punxsutawney-based State Police report that an investigation has determined an October structure fire was caused by arson.

After investigation into an October 1 fire at 214 S. Gilpin Street, Punxsutawney, police have determined the cause to be arson.

The building had no occupants within the structure and had been sitting vacant for the majority of 2015, according to police.

The water and electric had also been disconnected.

Police estimate the damage to the building at $200,000.

No injuries were reported as a result the fire.

Police say the owner of the building is Virginia Martha Shaffer, of Rossiter, Pa.
