Police say 38-year-old Keith I. Smith, of Brockport, was traveling north on Route 28 in the right lane, and “while attempting to answer his cell phone, he lost control of his 2009 Nissan Altima.”

The Nissan traveled off the roadway onto the east berm, and the driver’s side rear struck a utility pole. The car spun around in a counter-clockwise motion after impact. It came to a rest in a yard along the eastern berm of the roadway, according to police.

Police say Smith left the scene after the crash occurred.

He was not injured in the accident, police say.

Brockway Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Smith was charged with a traffic violation.
