Brockway Baseball Falls to Johnsonburg


JOHNSONBURG, Pa. (D9Sports) – Daunte Allegretto hit a two-run home run during a four-run fourth inning, as fourth-seeded Johnsonburg beat fifth-seeded Brockway, 5-3, in the District 9 Class 2A quarterfinals at Knothole Field in Johnsonburg.

Allegretto was 1-for-2 on the day driving in three runs while adding a run scored for the Rams. Domenic Allegretto doubled and scored a run while adding an RBI while Garrett Gregori scored a pair of runs.

Johnsonburg jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Domenic Allegretto hit a double, sending Gregori home.

The Rams extended their lead with a four-run fourth inning before Brockway scored its three runs in the final two innings.

Tyler Serafini scored the first run on a passed ball in the sixth, and then in the seventh Zane Puhala hit a two-run double that brought home Connor Ford and Ben Glasl.

Puhala paced the Rovers offense going 2-for-4 including the double and two RBIs.

Daunte Allegretto got the win going five scoreless innings allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four. Gabe Watts gave up three runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks while striking out four in the 1 ⅓ innings of work. Gavin Elmquist, despite giving up the two-run double to Puhala, picked up the save going ⅔ of an inning allowing the one hit while striking out one.

Tino Inzana was the hard-luck loser for Brockway. He gave up five runs, but only one earned, on just three hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings of work.

Johnsonburg will take on top-seeded Coudersport in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Marys’ Berwind Park.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 11, NORTH CLARION 4

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Scoring nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined, third-seeded Clarion-Limestone erased a 3-2 deficit and picked up an 11-4 win over sixth-seeded North Clarion in the District 9 Class 1A quarterfinals at C-L.

North Clarion erased an early 2-0 deficit with a three-run that included a two-run double from Logan Minich and an error that put the Wolves in the lead.

But in the fifth, Ben Smith’s two-out, two-run double put C-L back in front for good, 4-3, and Ian Larson followed with an RBI single to make it 5-3.

The Lions added on in the sixth thanks to an RBI bunt single by Drew Beichner, a run-scoring base hit by Bryson Huwar, a two-run single by Hayden Callen, a Smith RBI groundout and a single by Larson.

Larson had a big game going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Smith was 1-for-4 with the double, a run scored and three RBIs, Callen was 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs, Huwar was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI and Colby Himes went 1-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

Korey Mills was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for North Clarion with Logan Minnich going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Zack Wolbert was also 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Preston Schmader was 2-for-3.

Callen got the win going six innings allowing three runs, two earned, on 12 hits and two walks while striking out five. Huwar pitched one inning allowing a run on a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Logan Minich took the loss going five innings allowing nine runs, six earned, on eight hits and three walks while striking out five. Mills pitched an inning allowing two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one.

C-L will take on Otto-Eldred in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday in Wilcox.
