Brockway Center for Arts and Technology Gearing Up for the Holidays

BROCKWAY, Pa. (EYT) – With October drawing to a close, the Brockway Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT) is gearing up for the holiday season and preparing for several special events planned over the next two months.

Holiday activities at BCAT kick off in November, beginning with a Ceramics Holiday Ornament Workshop on Tuesday, November 12.

According to Liana Agnew, Youth and Arts Coordinator and Ceramic Teaching Artist, the workshop will focus on creating holiday ornaments from porcelain clay.

“We have cookie cutter shapes or people and create their own, and we also have the option of paining them with underglaze,” Agnew noted.

The workshop will run begin at 6:00 p.m. and the cost is $30.00 per person.

“It’s just a nice way to bring people in and give them the opportunity to try something new and create their own ornaments.”

Heading into December, BCAT will be holding their second annual Artisan Christmas Village on Friday, December 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Artisan Christmas Village is a one night event where BCAT will host a variety of local artists with their wares and goods for sale, perfect for holiday shopping.

According to Agnew, they are currently still in the process of lining up vendors for the event, but she shared that the vendors will include both some of BCAT’s staff as well as other local artists.

“We really like this event. It’s a really nice event with all high quality local handmade goods, and it gives people the opportunity to see local artists in the area and what they’re making. There’s more than what many people may initially think.”

Agnew noted that last year’s event, which was BCAT’s first Artisan Christmas Village, was a definite success.

“We had people in and out all evening. It also offered a people the opportunity to come in and see the center and meet us as instructors and make those connections with us.”

Food and drinks will also be provided at the event.

On Saturday, December 14, there will be another workshop, this time focused on metal ornaments. The workshop will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the cost will be $35.00 per person. Agnew said this workshop will give participants a chance to try creating ornaments from different metals.

Finally, BCAT will also be doing their Tree of Giving program again this year.

According to Nicole Snyder, Assistant Administrator to the Executive Director, while they are still working out the details, this year’s Tree of Giving will be seeking donations for Gateway Humane Society, as well as a local K9 unit that trains dogs for search and rescue efforts. BCAT will be putting up a tree, making ornaments, and putting boxes out to collect supplies and donations for those organizations.
