Brookville Man Accused of Hitting, Dragging Woman, Threatening to Kill Her

PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man is facing aggravated assault and related charges stemming from a series of alleged domestic disputes that occurred over a four-day period at a residence located on State Route 322, in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.

According to court documents, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against Chad Alfred Lathrop, 38, of Brookville.

Lathrop was arraigned at 9:45 a.m., on March 21, in the office of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak on the following charges:

– Aggravated Assault, Felony 1 (two counts)
– Terroristic Threats W/ Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (four counts)
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary (four counts)

According to a criminal complaint, the dispute began on March 17 with Lathrop allegedly grabbing the female victim by the hair and hitting her head on the steps while dragging her upstairs. Once upstairs, he allegedly continued to hit the victim.

At this time, her dog began barking and lunged at Lathrop. Allegedly, Lathrop picked up the dog and threw it on the victim causing puncture wounds and lacerations to her arms and legs. He then grabbed the victim by the throat and hit her in the face with an open hand and punched her at least once, according to the complaint.

Verbal altercations followed over the course of the next two days with Lathrop allegedly hitting the victim in the head when they argued. After Lathrop had been drinking for approximately six hours on March 20, another verbal altercation began. Again Lathrop allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair and dragged her through the kitchen and up the stairs. Once upstairs, he caused the victim to hit her head on the bathtub while he had a hold of her hair, the complaint states.

He also “took a closed pocket knife from his pocket and threatened to kill the victim and her dog,” according to the complaint.

Unable to post $50,000.00 monetary bail, Lathrop is lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on May 1 with Judge Bazylak presiding.
