Brookville Man Facing Escape Charge for Failing to Report to Jefferson County Jail

PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man failed to report back to the Jefferson County Jail after being granted work release.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 39-year-old Richard Allen Kuhn Jr., of Brookville, on January 9.

According to a criminal complaint, Richard Kuhn was granted work release from the Jefferson County Jail for the weekend beginning on Friday, September 21, 2018, and ending on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

Kuhn was ordered by Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak to report to the Jefferson County Jail no later than Monday, September 24, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.

According to the complaint, Kuhn failed to comply, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department arrived at Kuhn’s residence on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, and apprehended him around 12:25 p.m.

Kuhn was then transported back to the Jefferson County Jail.

Based on the investigation, one second-degree misdemeanor count of escape was filed on Wednesday, January 9, in Judge Bazylak’s office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, with Judge Bazylak presiding.

Court documents indicate Kuhn has a previous criminal history in Jefferson County. Most recently, he was sentenced to six months in an Intermediate Punishment Program followed by one year of probation in September of 2018 in relation to DUI and drug possession charges. He also waived a preliminary hearing on felony burglary and related charges on November 27, 2018.
