Brookville Police File Animal Cruelty, Neglect Charges After Several Cats Found at Abandoned House

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Animal cruelty charges have been filed in a case local police pursued with the help of a local rescue organization.

According to Brookville Borough Police, they have been working collaboratively with Stray Cat Central rescue in an effort to rescue abandoned cats in Brookville.

During the month of June, the two agencies rescued 34 cats from an abandoned residence. The cats were then taken to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered and to receive vaccinations and treatment for any health issues.

On September 24, neighbors noticed several cats sitting in the windows of the abandoned residence again. Brookville Borough Police and Stray Cat Central went to investigate and again found numerous cats in the residence.

Police say through an investigation, it was then determined that a known individual started taking cats to the abandoned house for a second time in approximately two months.

One of the cats had to be taken to a veterinarian for health issues and a flea infestation.

Charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect are pending against the individual involved in taking the cats to the residence, according to police.

The Brookville Borough Police say they would also like to thank Stray Cat Central for a job well done, as well as the citizens of Brookville Borough who were observant and concerned about their community.

The name of the accused was not released.
