Brookville, Punxsy to Square Off Tonight

D9Sports.com’s Chris Rossetti takes a look at tonight’s KSAC high school football action.

Large School Division

Punxsutawney (1-1, 1-0) at Brookville (1-1, 0-1)

With the Route 36 Trophy on the line, Brookville will try to build on its 13-6 win over Union last week, while Punxsutawney will try to forget its 33-14 loss at Keystone.

Quarterback Ryan Jones has been the key player for Punxsy throwing for 332 yards and rushing for 180, while Seth Ray has been strong for Brookville throwing for 250 yards in two weeks with a touchdown.

St. Marys (2-0, 1-0) at Karns City (2-0, 1-0)

This is a rematch of last year’s District 9 Class AA title game and could be a preview of this year’s title contest.

Karns City enters the game as the top ranked team in the D9Sports.com District 9 rankings and has outscored its opponents 89-7 in two games while nearly gaining 800 yards rushing behind the play of Colin Dunmyre (200 yards, 2 TDs), Maverick Kelsea (191 yards, 3 TDs) and Chandler Turner (144 yards, 3 TDs).

St. Marys has also been strong on the ground despite missing T.J. Hogan, a 1,000-yard rusher from a year ago, with an injury. Matt Marconi (238 yards, 2 TDs) and Christian Steffan (140 yards, 4 TDs) have filled in nicely.

Small School Division

Clarion (2-0, 1-0) at Clarion-Limestone (1-1, 0-1)

C-L is coming off its first win in 10 years over Moniteau, while Clarion rolled past Sheffield last week. The Lions, though, haven’t beaten their crosstown rivals is 11 meetings (2004 was the last C-L win) and have been outscored 250-6 by Clarion in the last four seasons.

Clarion is led by running back Colton Rapp (321 yards, 4 TDs), while C-L is paced by quarterback Anthony Louder (436 yards, 4 TDs; 4 rushing TDs) and wide out Brady Himes (19 catches, 247 yards).

Union (0-2, 0-1) at A-C Valley (0-2, 0-1)

A season that began with high expectations for Union is now at a crossroads after back-to-back losses to start the campaign for the Golden Knights. But A-C Valley might be just what the doctor ordered. The Falcons have lost 24 straight games and have struggled mightily on offense gaining just 99 yards in two games including just nine in a loss at St. Marys last week.

Dugan Gallagher has been strong for Union in the early going with 256 yards rushing and three scores, while Cole Morris has picked off a pair of passes on defense.

Non-Conference

Moniteau (0-2) at Port Allegany (0-2)

It’s a rare KSAC/AML non-conference game when Moniteau makes the 122-mile journey north to take on Port Allegany with both teams looking for their first win.

Derek Boben has done a little bit of everything in the early going for Moniteau throwing for 232 yards and rushing for 114, while Mac Tanner has rushed for 201 yards while making 27 tackles on defense for the Gators, who lost 48-12 at Moniteau a year ago.
