BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports.com) – Brookville wrestling showed why it’s ranked third in the state in Class AA by papowerwrestling.com by going 5-0 at the 20th annual Johnson Motors Ultimate Duals at Brookville High School Saturday.
It marks the first time the Raiders have gone 5-0 in the competition.
Brookville’s Tate Ortz was named the Gilly Memorial Award winner as the outstanding performer of the event.
Ortz, the top-ranked wrestler in the state at 132 pounds, best win came at 132 pounds against Reynolds when he beat Cole Matthews, the top-ranked wrestler at 126 pounds and a returning state champion, 10-2, at 132 pounds with Matthews wrestling up.
That win came in the day’s final match and helped Brookville top Reynolds, 36-30.
Earlier in the day, the Raiders beat Chestnut Ridge, 37-30, Burrell, 37-28, Saegertown, 53-12, and Greenville, 35-27.
In the Saegertown match, Brookville’s Cole Aaron won his 100th career bout with a 12-0 major decision over Dan Simmerman.
Reynolds came in second at the Duals with a 4-1 record, Chestnut Ridge was 3-2, Greenville was 2-3 with Burrell going 1-4 and Saegertown 0-5.
