Brookville YMCA Plans Pool Renovation

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – The Brookville YMCA is planning a major overhaul of their pool in the upcoming months.

According to Brookville YMCA CEO Tina Householder, the pool will be drained, the drains will all be replaced, and the entire pool will be resurfaced.

Though the plans for the pool are all set, the dates for the renovations are still uncertain.

“We’re hoping to get started in the next month, but the starting date is still up in the air,” Householder said.

Householder explained there will be two separate contractors working on the project: one to replace the drains, and another to handle the resurfacing. The difficulty with setting the starting date stems from finding days that work well for both contractors.

“We want to start the work by the end of May and have it finished by mid-June, but that could change,” said Householder.

A recent capital campaign has been raising money for the renovation.

According to Householder, a generous donor offered to match community donations up to $25,000.00, and additional money was also raised when the family of Connor Gerg requested that the proceeds of this year’s “Share the Love” event in his memory be used toward the renovation of the pool.

“He was a lifeguard here at the pool, and they thought that would be a good way of honoring his memory,” Householder stated.

This year’s “Share the Love” event was held on April 7 and included one mile, 5K, and 10K races, as well as a raffle, a soup sale, a bake sale, and a merchandise sale.

“We really appreciate all of the community involvement that is making this possible,” Householder said.
