Burton E. Harrold

obit_photoBurton E. Harrold, 87 of Warren died Monday evening, September 29, 2014, at St. Joseph Health Center. He was born February 15, 1927 in Punxsutawney, Pa the son of the late Burt Edward and Hazel Mae Horner Harrold. He and his wife, Ruby have been Warren residents since 1959, coming from Latrobe, Pa.

Burton was a 1945 graduate of Punxsutawney High School. He then served in the Navy during World War II, stationed in Japan in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Iowa. He worked for the May Company for 15 years in the appliance repair dept. and then was manager for 20 years at V & V Appliance Parts in Warren.

Burton was an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees over the years and was currently an usher, which he enjoyed doing for the past 20 years. He was also an active member of the Clarence Hyde American Legion Post No. 278, where he had served as Sergeant at Arms and was elected Legionaire of the year in 1995 and 2003. Over the years, he was scout master of the Cub Scout Pack, jointly through Roosevelt Elementary School and Otterbein Church. He enjoyed camping and traveling and woodworking crafts, all with his wife, Ruby. He loved spending time with his wife and family and loved animals, feeding the birds and birdwatching.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby J. Pearce Harrold, whom he married March 25, 1950; one son, Timothy D. (Marlane) Harrold of Warren; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Shannon, Rachel, Adam, Jodi and Joshua and five great grandchildren.

Burton was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas E. and Torrence N. “Terry” Harrold; one brother, John Harrold and one sister, Della Bishop.

The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Pastor Daniel Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at Champion Township Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
