Police Respond to Car vs. Deer Crash on Route 28

ROSE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 4:30 a.m. today, a one-car accident occurred on State Route 28, West of James Lane, in Rose Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 32-year-old Daniel S. Shaffer, of Brookville, was traveling south on SR 28 and a deer ran from the west berm directly in front of his 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt.

The front of the car impacted the deer, then the car spun in a counter-clockwise direction and came to rest facing north on SR 28 blocking the northbound lane of traffic, police say.

The deer came to rest on the west berm of SR 28.

Shaffer was using a seat belt and was not injured.

McPherson Towing hauled the car from the scene.

Pinecreek Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
