Car Slams into Utility Pole on Rt. 36, Woman Hospitalized

ELDRED TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A 53-year-old woman was hospitalized earlier today after a car crashed into a utility pole along Route 36 in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

Marienville-based State Police said the accident happened around 2:09 p.m. when a vehicle operated by 20-year-old Miraballes Scarpenti, of Philadelphia, traveled into the northbound lane, causing two oncoming vehicles to travel into the southbound lane.

Scarpenti’s vehicle then exited the roadway and traveled over an embankment before colliding with a utility pole. The vehicle then began to spin and subsequently overturned.

Scarpenti and 18-year-old Suite-River Nelson, of Philadelphia, were both wearing safety belts and escaped injury.

A second passenger, 53-year-old Krista Sheryl Nelson, also of Philadelphia, was transported to Brookville Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. She was seated in the back seat and was not wearing a safety belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
