Carol A. Blawas

BlawasCarol A. Blawas, 73, of White Lane, Chicora, Concord Township, went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, December 10, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

Mrs. Blawas was born in Jeanette on November 17, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Wayne and Eleanor Bell Kiggins.

She was a 1960 graduate of Jeanette High School.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker.

When Carol was in her mid 30’s with five children, she decided to enter the nursing program at Westmoreland County Community College and graduated at the top of her class.

She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Jeanette Hospital and Sugar Creek Rest Home.

Carol was a gifted and talented ceramics artisan.

She was an avid animal lover and especially loved her dogs.

She had been a member of TOPS.

Mrs. Blawas was a Christian and enjoyed Bible studies with friends, a good laugh, seeing people smile, and family vacations.

She is survived by her husband, Frank C. Blawas, whom she married on June 2, 1960 in Jeanette. Also surviving are five children, Jack Wayne Blawas and his companion, Dee Hays, of Jeanette, Denise M. White and her husband, Michael R., of Chicora, Lori A. Shafer and her fiancé, Don Fox, of Chicora, Frank K. Blawas and his wife, Sandy, of Irwin, and David G. Blawas and his wife, Angela “Angel”, of Latrobe; eight grandchildren, Jason, Layce, Shannon, David, Paige, David, Brian, and Stephanie; six great grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Kiggins and his wife, Monique, of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Linda Kiggins of Jeanette and Sheila Dunaway of Arona; a son-in-law, Dave Shafer of Greensburg, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Blawas.

“We will miss you Mom and we will see you again.”

The family wishes to thank all those who prayed, sent cards, and helped in any way with Mom’s care. Many thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice for showing God’s love.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. Friday.

A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Mark A. Wallace, pastor of Chicora Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and the Rev. John Pistorius, pastor of St. John’s Reformed Church, Chicora, co-officiating.
