Charges Filed Against Punxsy Woman Accused of Choking, Punching Juvenile

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly choked a juvenile and punched him in the face multiple times over the last few years.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 33-year-old Kayla J Hanley, of Punxsutawney.

According to a criminal complaint, on June 30, a known 13-year-old victim was interviewed at Western PA Cares for Kids.

According to the complaint, the victim reported that he has been verbally and physically abused by Kayla J Hanley for the past six to seven years.

The victim allegedly stated Hanley would punch him in the face on many occasions causing him to receive a black eye and marks on his neck. He also allegedly stated the last time he was assaulted by Hanley was the day he was taken away by Juvenile Justice on May 31.

The complaint states the victim reported he had come home and asked Hanley what they were having for dinner, and she said they were having fast food. He stated that he then asked Hanley why they always have fast food and wanted to know whey she didn’t cook dinner for a change.

According to the complaint, the victim said Hanley then began screaming at him for asking her to cook, so he went up to his room. He reported that Hanley came upstairs about five minutes later and continued to scream at him about “disrespecting” her. He allegedly stated that Hanley then reached over and grabbed him by the throat, leaving marks on his neck. He stated he then fought her off and placed her in a headlock to stop her from choking him.

The complaint notes the victim also reported he recalled an incident when he and his younger sibling were seated in Hanley’s vehicle and she, for an unknown reason, reached over and punched him in the face. He stated he had no idea why she punched him, but remembered he had a black eye from the incident.

According to the complaint, the victim stated Hanley has punched him in the face many times of the past several years for unknown reasons. He also reported he has seen Hanley “get physical” with his younger sibling by slapping him and pulling him by his shirt.

The following charges were filed against Hanley through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on July 22:

– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary (two counts)

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on October 8, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
