Charles Everett Motter

Charles Everett Motter, 89, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019, in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Born in Punxsutawney, PA, September 30, 1929, he was a son of the late Fred and Beulah Clare Motter.

Mr. Motter retired from the United States Air Force (1970) after 22 years of honorable service as a civil engineer. During his career, he was stationed at various locations across the US, as well as overseas tours in Thule, Greenland, Germany, and England. He served a tour of duty, Ton Son Nhut AFB, Vietnam (1968-69) where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service.

In June 1952, stationed at Donaldson AFB, he met Joyce Jones of Greer, SC on a blind date. Following a whirlwind courtship and a Halloween proposal, the young couple wed on December 20th and celebrated nearly 67 years together. Except for the year in Thule and Vietnam, he and the love of his life were inseparable. He often said he ‘had the USAF and a blind date to thank for bringing a young man from PA to a southern belle from SC to create their life-long love story’. Their military adventures and years together brought them two daughters and a son. Upon retirement, Mr. Motter attended Midlands Technical College earning several HVAC certificates and an Associate Degree of Business Management.

Mr. Motter was a member and former deacon of Timberlake Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. He and his wife are also charter members of First Southern Baptist Church Mountain Home, the first of its kind in Idaho. Mr. Motter served the Lord faithfully and was genuinely loved by all who knew him. He was well known for his broad smile and welcoming handshake to church members and visitors alike.

Mr. Motter was an avid bowler, rolling the first ever 300 perfect game at Kincheloe AFB, MI. He loved all things space/aviation-related, was accomplished at horseshoes and pinochle and loved watching football. Most of all he loved God, his family, and his church.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 67 years, Joyce Jones Motter, daughters Patricia West (Larry) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Susan Davis (Gary) of Surfside Beach, SC, and son, Steven Motter (Jamey) of Raleigh, NC, six grandchildren, Brian and Jared Reed, Andrew Davis and Ashley Silber, Elizabeth and James Motter. Eight great-grandchildren, Braeden, Carsen, Evalette, Leonidas, Tyrion, Abigail, Jaxon and Elijah. Also, his sisters, Grace Test and Joyce Freeman of Pennsylvania.
