Chester E. Wingert, Jr.

Chester E. Wingert, Jr., 96, of Bush Court, DuBois, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Born on May 13, 1921, in DuBois, PA, he is the son of the late Chester & Alverta (Aurand) Wingert, Sr.

He was a graduate of the DuBois High School and the Pennsylvania State University.

During World War II he served as a sergeant at AGF Second Army head quarters in Memphis, TN.
He later went on to work as a corporate accountant for Pennzoil in Oil City and then for Brockway Glass.

On February 5, 1945, he married his wife of 65 years Catherine (Hill) Wingert. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2012.

Chet was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in DuBois, where he taught adult Sunday school and chaired the finance committee for many years. He also was a mason and past master of Oil City Lodge #363 and Garfield Lodge #559, DuBois. He was a 32nd degree mason with the Valley of New Castle and belonged to the Altoona Shrine, George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17 and the Reynoldsville Elks. He was an avid Penn State football fan and longtime season ticket holder. He attended many of the Nittany Lions bowl games. He also enjoyed swimming at the DuBois YMCA.

Chester is survived by two children: William Wingert and his wife Patricia of Philadelphia, PA, and Carol Seldomridge and her husband Daryl of Danville, PA; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Walburn, Megan Ruehr, Melissa Lehr and Michael Seldomridge; and five great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Marian Walburn and sister, Frances Wingert.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A masonic service will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. by the members of Garfield Lodge #559.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lance Tucker officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church.

Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
