The students were guests of the women’s basketball team and the Clarion University Athletic Department as part of a Kids Day Promotion.

Clarion head coach Jana Ashley said the idea behind the program is to introduce the students to Clarion University women’s basketball and to give back to the community.

“What we talked to the team before is kind of think back to that first college game that you got to see,” Ashley said. “(Think about) how exciting that was and how you probably picked out a player or two that you really looked up to. So, just being an example with the energy that we played with today, the communication, the body language, everything being team-first. Hopefully, we had a few future Golden Eagles sitting in the stands today.”

The kids were treated to more than just the basketball game.

During the game, they were shown a number of times on the new video scoreboard at Tippin Gym, and in between the third and fourth quarters “Baby Shark” was played on the video scoreboard getting a nice rise out of the kids. Some lucky ones also got to take home t-shirts that were tossed up into the stands by event staff, and, after the game, all the kids were invited down to the floor to get their programs autographed by the members of the Golden Eagles.
