Clarion Golf Teams Struggle at PSAC Championships


HERSHEY, Pa. – The Clarion University men’s and women’s golf teams struggled at the PSAC Golf Championships held at the Hershey Club over the weekend with the men taking seventh of eight teams and the women finishing eighth out of eight teams.

The men’s team did improve by 18 strokes over its first-date score of 327 shooting a 309 Sunday at the Hershey Club West, but the two-day title of 636 placed the Golden Eagles, who used to dominate the men’s circuit, well back of the champion, IUP, who shot 593, and only ahead of Pitt-Johnstown’s 641.

Nathan Sandberg finished the event with a two-day score of 153, which was tied for 12th overall in the field. Mitch Faulkner finished tied for 17th, while Nick Giambronefinished tied for 35th with a 167.

The women’s team was well back in the field shooting a 773, which was 62 shots back of seventh-place East Stroudsburg and 135 shots off of champion Kutztown (638).

Morgan Johnson had the best round of the day Sunday for Clarion, carding a round of 90 to finish with a two-day total of 181. Sophomore Christan Bowshier was just behind her, finishing with 97 on Sunday for a total of 196. Elisabeth Papa was only one place behind her, carding a round of 96 on Sunday, and Clancy Fyock finished with a two-day score of 206.
