CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (EYT) – Clarion Native Jon Kemmer wrapped up the 2015 regular season Sunday by officially clinching the Texas League batting title.

Kemmer, who plays right field for the Houston Astros’ Class AA affiliate Corpus Christi Hooks, finished the regular season leading the Texas League with a .327 batting average, a .574 SLG %, and a.988 OPS.
He also hit 18 home runs, drove in 65 runs, and stole 9 bases.
“The amount of hard work I put in the cage before and during the season and my ability to make adjustments mid-game were both huge,” Kemmer told exploreClarion.com.
The Clarion Area grad was an under-the-radar 2013 draft pick by the Astros in the 21st round out of Brewton-Parker College. He hit .291 with 16 home runs and 50 RBI last year in Single A and continues his move toward the majors this year.
He was also recently named one of the Houston Astros top outfield prospects by House of Houston, a Houston news and opinions website.
Kemmer will be back in action Wednesday when Corpus Christi opens the playoffs versus the Midland RockHounds in the Texas League South Division Series.
“My goals are simple for the playoffs – do what ever it takes to help the team win this postseason,” said Kemmer. “Then, take that confidence into next season to hopefully have a shot to make the big league team.”
