Clarion Swimming Splits with Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Clarion University men’s swimming and diving team earned a win on the road Friday evening, defeating Edinboro by a final score of 106.5-97.5.

The victory moves the Golden Eagles to 5-2 on the season in dual meet events. The Blue and Gold return to action on February 4th when they host the Clarion Invitational.

Nathan Porter came out of the gate flying, touching out at a PSAC-qualifying 10:03.91 to take first place in the 1000 yard freestyle. Porter was followed closely by Patrick Oliver, who touched out second just behind with a time of 10:27.71.

Josh Thurston also nabbed a PSAC qualifier in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a final mark of 48.62. Ben Spencer followed suit two races later by out-touching everyone in the 100-yard backstroke, and Oliver sealed the win for the Blue and Gold with a triumphant effort in the 500-yard freestyle in the meet’s waining stages.

WOMEN FALL TO EDINBORO

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Clarion University women’s swimming and diving team was defeated on the road Friday evening at Edinboro by a final score of 112-93. The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 3-4 overall in dual meets this season. The Blue and Gold return to action on February 4th when they host the Clarion Invite.

Becca Yonek enjoyed a hot start for Clarion, taking first overall in the 1000 yard freestyle with a final time of 10:55.39. Letizia Collini also managed to snag a first-place mark in the 100 yard freestyle, touching out with a finals time of 55.81.

Yonek and Summer Dacheux kept the momentum going in the meet’s later stages by snagging a first-place finishes in the 500 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke, respectively, however Edinboro was able to hang on in the end and secure the victory at home. The University of Pittsburgh also participated in the meet as well.
