Clarion U. Football Finishes Season 1-10 After Second Loss to Bloomsburg


BLOOMSBURG, Pa – Jeff Clemens threw for a career-high 247 yards while Mylique McGriff combined for 162 all-purpose yards, but it wasn’t enough as the Clarion Golden Eagles closed their 2017 season with a 31-15 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday.

The two teams met earlier in the season, with the Huskies edging out Clarion 29-20 back on September 9th.

On Saturday, the Golden Eagles got on the board first with a 44-yard strike from Clemens to Cameron Jefferies, making it 7-0 Clarion at the 6:01 mark in the 1st quarter.

Bloomsburg scored a pair of touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to take a 17-7 lead into halftime, ultimately rattling off 31 unanswered points. Clarion closed the gap to 31-15 late in the 3rd quarter when Clemens found Marcus McCoy for a 36-yard touchdown pass.

Unfortunately, for Clarion, a stalled drive and an interception in the 4th quarter sealed the game for the Huskies.

Clemens finished the day 16 of 29 passing for 247 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns and an interception.

McGriff was Clarion’s leading rusher and receiver on Saturday, picking up 91 yards on the ground along with 71 yards through the air.

Brandon Vocco led the Clarion defense with 13 total tackles on the day while Sam Fareri picked up his fourth interception of the season.

Clarion finishes the season 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the PSAC while Bloomsburg ends the 2017 season at 7-4 and 4-3 in the PSAC.

Coach Weibel’s squad will open the 2018 season on the road at Lock Haven University on September 8th.
