Clarion U. Women’s Swimming and Diving Dominates IUP in Tippin Return


CLARION, Pa. – Returning to Tippin Natatorium for the first time this season, the Clarion women’s swimming team picked up a dual meet win on Saturday afternoon, with the Golden Eagles defeating the Crimson Hawks 173.5-112.5.

Clarion (3-2, 3-1 PSAC) will be back in action on January 24 for Senior Day against Edinboro.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Ava Arnold, Candice Chalus, Autumn Fortney and Abbey Newman opened the scoring with a first-place appearance, finishing with a final time of 1:49.88 for a nine-point start to the afternoon.

Senior Mary Clare Smith and Sarah Murray followed that up with a 1-2 finish in the 1000 Free, with Smith finishing with a final time of 11:09.42, while Murray finished with a final time of 11:15.04 to score 13 team points. Morgan Manglaviti finished second in the 200 Free touching the wall in a final time of 1:59.28.

Arnold would pick up her first solo win of the afternoon in the 100 Back finishing with a final time of 1:00.57, while Stephanie Setar, Isabella Feenstra and Abbey Uebelacker went 2,3,4. The Golden Eagles would go without a first-place finish for a couple of events before Courtney Kosanovic broke through in the 200 Butterfly, just edging out Fourtney with a final time of 2:18.23 for nine team points.

Newman and Manglaviti went 1-2 in the 50 Free giving the Golden Eagles 13 more team points and a commanding lead over the Crimson Hawks. Arnold picked up a first-place finish in the 200 Back followed by Setar and Feenstra with a final time of 2:13.39. Chalus took first in the 200 Breaststroke with a final time of 2:28.38, while Kaitlynn Henninge took first in the 500 Free with a final mark of 5:28.07.

In the diving events, Emma Kehn paced the field in both the 1M and 3M dives reaching NCAA Qualifying marks in both. She totaled a 293.75 in the 3M and a 278.55 in the 1M.
