Clarion drops to 2-4 overall and1-1 in the Eastern Wrestling League, while Edinboro is now 3-1 overall and 1-0 I the EWL. Clarion will host Rider on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2pm.

Clarion’s four wins on the night brought the crowd of around 550 to their feet several times at Tippin, but none responded any louder than in Pavasko’s 7-4 win over Patrick Jennings at 174.

After a scoreless first period, Jennings escaped, Pavasko scored a takedown and Jennings escaped again to end the period tied at 2-2. Pavasko went ahead 3-2 with an escape in the third, but Jennings takedown with about 28 seconds left gave the Edinboro senior a 4-3 lead. With 5 seconds remaining, Pavasko used a double underhook, form a kneeling position and vaulted Jennings over top, and then pancaked Jennings to his back for a 4-point move as the buzzer sounded and a thrilling 7-4 victory.

“That’s the first time I’ve beaten him in my career – about six matches,” said Pavasko. “In situations like that (the ending), that’s what we train for,” he explained. “The crowd was getting louder and louder, and I fed off the energy. I’m just blessed to have great workout partners and coaches.”

Clarion’s Dominic Rigous then posted a technical fall, 15-0 at 7:00 over Chris Laird at 184-pounds and Clarion pulled to within 1 point in the match at 16-15.

Edinboro finished with Vince Pickett’s 4-1 win over Dustin Conti at 197 and at 285 Billy Miller cinched the match with a 13-5 major decision over Evan Daley.

Clarion’s other two wins came at 133 where Michael Bartolo won a 7-4 decision over Tony Rocco and 133 and Brock Zacherl (Brookville) at 141 scored an 8-0 major decision over Nate Hagan.

Evan DeLong had a tough match against #19 Casey Fuller at 165. DeLong lost 6-2, but the score was much closer than that. With DeLong trailing 3-2, the duo spent about 45-seconds late in the match – going move-for-move with each other before Fuller got a late takedown to secure the victory.

CLARION NOTES: Zacherl is now 10-1 on the season and DeLong 9-2.
