Clarion University Theatre Department Presents ‘Dear Harvey’ Beginning April 22

Dear HarveyCLARION, Pa. – Clarion University Theatre will present “Dear Harvey” in Marwick-Boyd Little Theatre beginning April 22.

The play “Dear Harvey” by Patricia Loughrey – with original music by Thomas Hodges – will be presented at 8:00 p.m. from April 22 to 25 and at 2:00 p.m. on April 26.

Harvey Milk was the first openly gay politician to be elected to public office. This documentary-style play retells the story of his life and how his actions affected the LGBT community and inspired others into a life of public service. People who were closest to Milk and most affected by his struggle tell the story.

“Most portrayed in the play are still living and in the prime of their careers. It is great for the students to be able to watch their character on YouTube to see the mannerism of the character, as well as to be able to contact who they are playing,” said Robert Levy, director of the play.

The cast includes: Sam Atwell, St. Marys; Lorenzo Ballesteros, Cresco; Kiah Harrington-Wymer, Brookville; Delilah Heverly, Lock Haven; Casey Martz, Brookville; Maggie Mae McWade, Clarion; and Andrew Stalder, Warren. The understudies are Logan Honsaker, Twinsburg, Ohio, and Anna Matia, Pittsburgh.

The production is designed by students John Dobson, Mercer; Thomas Feather, Windber; Hank Bullington, Clarion; Emily Smallwood, Dallas, Pa.; and faculty member Myra Bullington.

“Dear Harvey” contains adult language and may not be suitable for younger viewers.
