Clarion University’s Horner Gets EWL Award; Eagles Reschedule Lock Haven

horner act 1 (2)LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Clarion 165-pound junior wrestler Slade Horner (Ridgway) was named today as the EWL “Wrestler of the Week”, for his winning performance at Cleveland State on Friday night.

The Golden Eagles also announced that their dual meet with Lock Haven, which was postponed on Sunday due to bad weather, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at LHU’s Thomas Field House.

Horner, in his first year wrestling at Clarion, posted an impressive 7-3 win over Matt Donohoe (record of 14-13) of Cleveland State. Horner had takedowns in each of the three periods, plus a third period escape to nail down the victory. The win was even more impressive since Horner had been out of the lineup since December 13 with an injury. Slade upped his record to 13-8 on the season.

“We congratulate Slade on getting this EWL honor,” said head wrestling coach Keith Ferraro. “It was a really nice win, against a tough opponent, and made especially since he had been out of the lineup since December.”

This is the second award for Horner this season. He was named the PSAC “Wrestler of the Week” on December first for going 2-0 in duals against Rider and Penn. He went on to place third at 165-pounds a week later at the PSAC Championships.

Horner is the son of Ed and Roxanne Horner.
