Clarion U’s Johns Earns All-American Honors in Diving

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Cary Johns earned the first All-American honor of his career on Thursday night, taking eighth place in the 1m Dive at the 2018 Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

The junior will next be in action on Saturday when he competes in the 3m Dive to close the week.

Johns placed eighth in the preliminary early in the day and held that seed through the finals, taking eighth place with a score of 469.15. It makes him the latest in a long line of Clarion divers to achieve All-American status, and he is now the 282nd All-American in the tenure of diving coach Dave Hrovat.

“That’s probably the best men’s finals field I’ve seen in all my years of coaching,” Hrovat said. “Everyone was really locked in, and for Cary to perform the way he did in his first trip to NCAA’s blew me away. He’s got the right to be proud with the way he competed and finished.”

Also competing on Thursday was Michael Allison, who took part in the preliminaries early in the day. He placed 18th with a score of 379.60.
