Clarion Wrestlers Host Rival Bloomsburg Friday at 7 p.m.

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – The Clarion wrestling team returns to the friendly confines of Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on Friday, December 19, when the Golden Eagles host Bloomsburg in an EWL and PSAC dual meet. Match time is set for 7p.m.

The match will also feature “Ugly Christmas Sweater Night.” Fans are urged to wear your most pronounced Christmas Sweater to the match, have it judged, and the top 3 judged sweaters of the night will win a prize, courtesy of the Clarion University Pin Club.

The Clarion – Bloomsburg match will be available on WWCH – AM 1300, for listeners in Clarion and on the internet on Redzonemdia.com with Rich Herman and Bob Bubb calling the action.

Clarion, under head coach Keith Ferraro, enters the match with an 0-8 dual meet record against a very tough schedule. The Golden Eagles opened the 2014-15 wrestling season hosting the Clarion Open on November 2 with three Clarion wrestlers in Saturday’s lineup earning places including Daniel Sutherland (3rd at 174), Michael Pavasko (4th at 174) and Evan DeLong (4th at 157). On November 15 Clarion participated in the Eastern Michigan duals and lost four dual matches to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (19-12), #17 Northwestern (39-6). Central Michigan (34-6) and Northern Illinois (31-7).

Then on November 22, Clarion hosted four-time and defending NCAA D-I National Champion Penn State at Tippin Gym and lost a 44-0 decision in front of 2,875 fans. On November 30 the Golden Eagles traveled to Rider and lost a 38-3 decision to the Broncs and a 25-13 loss to Penn.

Clarion placed 5th at the PSAC Championships on December 6th at Bloomsburg with Evan Daley finishing second and Slade Horner, Mike Pavasko and Ryan Darch finishing third, while last Saturday the Golden Eagles lost a 32-6 decision at #12 ranked Edinboro.

Clarion’s lineup for Bloomsburg will likely be: Seth Carr (5-11; R-Fr. McDonald/South Fayette) at 125, Joel Rosko (3-9; Fr. Campbell, N.Y.) at 133; Sam Sherlock (4-9; Sr. West Mifflin) at 141; Brodie Zacherl (9-11; Fr. Brookville, Pa.) at 149; Evan DeLong (8-11; Fr. Kane) at 157; Slade Horner (12-8; Jr. Ridgway) at 165; Michael Pavasko (10-8; Jr. Munhall/Steel Valley) at 174; Daniel Sutherland (9-11; Sr. N. Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) at 184, Ryan Darch (11-8; Sr. Batavia, N.Y.) at 197 and Evan Daley (10-6; So. Erie/Fort LeBoeuf) at 285.

Bloomsburg, under second year head coach Jason Mester, enters the match with an 0-2 dual meet record. The Huskies have lost to #9 Pittsburgh 35-3 and Eastern Michigan 30-6. At the recently completed PSAC
Championships Bloomsburg placed seventh.

Bloomsburg’s lineup on Friday will have Elliot Zackoski (1-8) at 125; Andy Schutz (9-6) at 133; Tanner Cahill (9-8) at 141; Kevin Laubach (9-9) at 149; Matt Hammerstone (2-8) at 157; Brandon Meisner (2-7) at 165; Casey Bearden (7-10) at 174; David Williams (2-7) at 184; Michael Mirra (6-7) at 197 and Shaun Heist (1-8) at 285.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion leads the Bloomsburg series 23-20-1 and is also ahead in EWL matches by a margin of 19-18-1 . Clarion won at Bloomsburg in 2012 by a final score of 22-18. the Eagles lost to Bloomsburg
in 2013 by a score of 21-9 at Tippin Gym, while last year the Huskies defeated Clarion 28-8 at Nelson Fieldhouse.
