CU Men’s Swimming Returns to Tippin and Shines Against IUP


CLARION, Pa. – In their return to Tippin Natatorium for the first time this season, the Clarion men’s swimming team won its first dual meet at home, sinking the IUP Crimson Hawks by a final score of 165-110 on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (2-3, 1-3 PSAC) will be back in action on January 24 for Senior Day and Alumni Day against Edinboro.

The 200 Medley Relay of Corey Mock, Josh Thruston, Connor Cary and Jacob Yant picked up the first points of the night for the Golden Eagles, placing first with a final time of 1:36.89, while the “B” team of Micah Phillips, Paul Flowers, Hayden Steiner and Tate Swanson finished second.

Ty Rabenstein picked up the second victory of the afternoon in the 1000 Free, pacing the field with a 10:08.37 finish for nine team points, he also finished first in the 500 Free touching the wall in 4:58.15. Cary kept the ball rolling finishing the 200 Free with a first-place finish and a final time of 1:48.02. Mock took first in the 100 Back touching the wall in a final time of 55.45. Thruston picked up a solo victory in the 100 Breaststroke beating the field by almost three seconds, finishing with a final mark of 59.20.

Cary extended the Golden Eagle lead with a first-place finish in the 200 Fly, finishing with a final time of 1:57.25 for nine team points. Yant had a strong performance in the 50 Free taking home a first-place finish with a final time of 22.11. Thruston added his second solo win of the night with a 47.12 finish in the 100 Free.

To round out the afternoon Jordan Morret and Andrew Cestra went 1-2 in both the 1M and 3M Dive for 26 total team points.
