Curve Blank Akron in Game 2 of Series

AKRON, Ohio – Eric Wood homered while Cody Dickson, Brett McKinney and Josh Smith combined for a shutout as the Altoona Curve knocked off the Akron RubberDucks, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Altoona (29-22) won for the first time in five tries at Canal Park this season. Akron (36-16) stranded 13 runners on base in the game.

Wood blasted a solo homer, his fifth of the year, to lead off the third inning against Akron starter Michael Peoples (Loss, 5-2).

The Curve added another run in the sixth inning when Reese McGuire doubled to let and a fielding error by left fielder Clint Frazier allowed Erich Weiss to come across the plate, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Dickson (Win, 4-2) worked around three this and four walks to post five scoreless innings. Brett McKinney took over for him in the sixth and worked two scoreless frames with three walks and a strikeout.

Smith (Save, 2) entered in the eighth and picked up the six-out save with four strikeouts, including striking out the side in order in the ninth.

Akron stranded two runners on base in three separate innings and left the bases loaded in the second and fourth. Dickson also worked a pair of double plays, one in the first and another in the third.

The Curve pitching staff posted its third shutout win of the season. Austin Meadows went 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The series wraps up with a rubber game on Thursday night at Canal Park. Right-hander Clay Holmes (4-4, 5.05) will be on the mound for the Curve. First pitch in Akron is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
