Curve Pick up First Win

CURVE, Pa. – Behind six strong innings from starter Tyler Eppler, the Altoona Curve collected their first win of the season, 6-3, over the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The Curve (1-2) held the Senators (2-1) to just three hits on the afternoon.

Eppler (Win, 1-0) scattered three hits over his six innings of work, allowing runs in the top of the third and sixth innings. He posted four 1-2-3 frames on the day.

The Curve scored runs in each of the first two innings and added two runs in the fourth on a Justin Maffei RBI single and a passed ball by Senators starter Reynaldo Lopez (Loss. 0-1) to score Chris Diaz, putting the Curve ahead, 4-1.

Jose Osuna blasted his first home run of the year in the bottom of the seventh off Harrisburg lefty Nick Lee to extend the lead to 6-2. Harrisburg got a run back against Dovydas Neveraskas in the top of the eighth inning, but Montana DuRapau (Save, 1) tossed a perfect top of the ninth with a strikeout to record his first career Double-A save.

Curve reliever Josh Smith worked around three walks without allowing a run in the seventh, extending his current scoreless streak to 19 innings dating back to July 20, 2015.

In two games played this series, Altoona’s Eric Wood is hitting .500 (4-for-8) with two triples, three runs scored and two runs driven in.

Harrisburg, which combined for 27 hits in the first two games, knocked only three against the four Altoona pitchers on Sunday.
