Curve Pitchers Strike Out 11, but Richmond Gets Win

CURVE, Pa. – Three Curve pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts against the Flying Squirrels, but Richmond pitching allowed just four hits as the Squirrels took the first game of the homestand, 5-1, on Thursday night at PNG Field.

Richmond (6-9) got a run in the top of the third and three in the top of the fourth against Cody Dickson (Loss, 0-2), who logged six innings, walked two and struck out five in his third start of the year.

Altoona (5-9) had difficulties hitting Richmond starter Chase Johnson (Win, 1-1), who allowed just four hits and one run while walking and striking out two batters each.

Erich Weiss scored the only run of the game for the Curve, leading the sixth inning off with a triple to center field and scoring on a Jose Osuna RBI groundout to cut the Squirrels’ lead to 4-1. Osuna has driven in a run in three-straight games.

Richmond got its final run in the top of the eighth inning against Altoona reliever Frank Duncan, who struck out four over his three innings of work, while also scattering two hits.
