Curve Rally Past SeaWolves in 10 Innings

ERIE, Pa. – The Altoona Curve brought in the tying run in the seventh and scored three times in the tenth to beat the Erie SeaWolves on Monday night, 7-4, at Jerry Uht Park.

The Curve (10-14) snapped a season-worst four-game losing streak in taking the opener of the four-game series against the SeaWolves (10-12).

The Curve broke a 4-4 tie in the tenth with an RBI single by Anderson Feliz in the top of the tenth inning. Erich Weiss followed with an RBI single and Austin Meadows hit a sacrifice fly to put the Curve in front, 7-4, all against Erie reliever Paul Voelker (Loss, 0-1).

Erie worked two walks in the bottom of the tenth, but Montana DuRapau (Save, 5) struck out Corey Jones to end the game.

Altoona reliever Josh Smith (Win, 1-1) pitched two scoreless relief innings with two strikeouts.

With the Curve trailing by a run in the seventh, Eric Wood ripped a two-run single to even the score at 4-4.

The Curve opened the scoring with an RBI single by Edwin Espinal and a sacrifice fly by Stetson Allie in the first inning. After an Erie run in the bottom of inning, Barrett Barnes clubbed his first homer of the season in the second, a solo shot to extend the Curve lead to 3-1.

The SeaWolves rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the sixth, but Jhondaniel Medina got Harold Castro to ground into a double play to work out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam.

Seven different Curve batters had an RBI in the game.

Altoona starter Cody Dickson allowed four runs over five innings on five hits with six walks and did not record a strikeout.

After allowing three runs in the first two innings, Erie starter Tommy Collier sat down the final 14 Curve batters he saw from the second inning through his departure after the sixth.

The Curve played extra innings for the second straight day after falling at Akron, 3-2, in 12 frames on Sunday afternoon.

The Curve and SeaWolves continue the series on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. Right-hander David Whitehead (1-2, 4.08) will be on the mound for the Curve, with right Brennan Smith (0-1, 14.79) pitching for the SeaWolves. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. in Erie.
