CURVE, Pa. – The Altoona Curve powered their way to a 9-2 win, beating the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Wednesday at Peoples Natural Gas Field behind home runs from Jordan Luplow and Connor Joe.

Altoona (15-9) swept the rain-shortened, two-game series against Richmond (9-14). The Curve are now 4-1 against the Flying Squirrels in 2017 and have a 9-2 record at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Altoona went ahead 2-0 in the first inning after Chase Simpson doubled home a pair of runs.

Luplow hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, to push the Curve lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

After Richmond answered with two runs off of Curve starter Tanner Anderson (Win, 2-1) in the fourth inning, Joe responded with a solo home run, his second, in the sixth inning to put Altoona ahead, 4-2. Joe extended his hitting streak to 10 games, raising his batting average to .284.

In the seventh inning, Pablo Reyes ripped an RBI single to plate another run to make it a 5-2 game.

Altoona erupted for four runs in the eighth inning. Four straight batters recorded RBIs in the frame, starting with Wyatt Mathisen who hit a pinch-hit sac fly. Back-to-back doubles by Zane Chavez and Chris Diaz produced a pair of runs, and Elvis Escobar tripled home another to round out the scaring and give Altoona a 9-2 lead.

Anderson pitched five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. Luis Heredia pitched a scoreless sixth inning before Buddy Borden tossed two scoreless innings. Borden has now pitched 14 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run to start the season. Tate Scioneaux closed it out by throwing a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts.

Richmond starter Jordan Johnson (Loss, 0-2) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits. Luis Pino allowed four earned runs on five hits in the eighth inning.

After reaching base on a single and a hit by pitch, Kevin Kramer has now extended his on-base streak to 21 consecutive games.

Altoona will begin a seven-game road trip on Thursday night against the Akron RubberDucks. Altoona’s starter for the series opener in Akron has not yet been announced. Right-hander D.J. Brown (0-1, 9.00) will start for the RubberDucks. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Canal Park.
