Curve Run Win Streak to Seven Straight

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Altoona Curve picked up their seventh consecutive win on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. 5-1. over the Binghamton Mets behind a three-RBI game by Reese McGuire and six strong innings on the mound by Clay Holmes.

The Curve (21-17) extended their season-best winning streak in the series opener against the B-Mets (16-20), who have now lost nine of their last 11 games.

Austin Meadows singled to bring Harold Ramirez across the plate in the third inning, and McGuire followed two batters later with an RBI single to open a 2-0 lead against Binghamton knuckleballer Mickey Jannis (Loss, 1-3).

The Curve added to the lead with a two-run single by McGuire in the fifth, and Eric Wood brought in a lead to put the Curve ahead, 5-0.

Holmes (Win, 3-4) settled in after allowing three hits over the first two innings to sit down ten straight Binghamton hitters from the second through the fifth innings. He matched a season high with six innings pitched and set a new high with six strikeouts while allowing one on five hits with no walks.

Binghamton scored its only run on a groundout by top New York Mets prospect Dominic Smith in the sixth.

Altoona reliever Dovydas Neverauskas pitched a scoreless seventh inning, his eighth consecutive scoreless appearance. He has not allowed a run in his last 10.2 innings pitched.

Josh Smith struck out two batters in a scoreless eighth, and Brett McKinney stranded the bases loaded in the ninth to finish the Curve victory.

Jannis was removed in the fifth inning and allowed five earned runs on seven hits with three walks. Logan Taylor, Luis Mateo and David Roseboom combined to pitch 4.2 scoreless frames out of the Binghamton bullpen.

The Curve and B-Mets continue the series on Wedneday night at NYSEG Stadium. Altoona lefty Cody Dickson (2-2, 4.91) will be on the mound, opposed by Binghamton left-hander Andrew Barbosa (1-0, 2.93). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
