BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Altoona Curve jumped ahead with a four-run sixth inning and cruised to a 6-1 win over the Binghamton Mets on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium to pick up their eighth consecutive win.
With the win, the Curve (22-17) matched the third-longest winning streak in franchise history. The B-Mets (15-21) have now lost ten of their last 12 games.
Altoona broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth when Jon Schwind came in to score on a wild pitch by Kelly Secreast (Loss, 0-1). Later in the inning, Chris Diaz singled in a run to add to the lead and relief pitcher Edgar Santana (Win, 2-0) drove a two-run single to left field in his first professional plate appearance to put the Curve in front, 5-1.
Edwin Espinal singled in a run in the sixth to pad the lead to 6-1.
The Curve took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Espinal.
The B-Mets evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Victor Cruzado.
Curve starter Cody Dickson allowed one run on two hits and two walks in four innings. Santana did not allow a hit in his relief work over three scoreless innings.
Jared Lakind and Montana DuRapau each worked a scoreless inning to finish the game.
Erich Weiss went 2-for-4 a double and a triple and scored twice for the Curve.
The Curve and B-Mets wrap up the series on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Right-hander Tyler Eppler (2-2, 2.70) takes the mound for Altoona, opposed by Binghamton right-hander Tyler Pill (3-3, 4.50). A win for the Curve would match the second-longest winning streak in franchise history at nine, which was done over the 2004-05 seasons. The longest winning streak in franchise history was a 10-game span in July-August 2005.
