CLARION, Pa. – Punxsutawney makes its first appearance and Brockway rejoins the field in the October 19 District 9 Top 10 Football Rankings, while the top three teams in the rankings remained the same led by No. 1 Karns City.
Punxsutawney enters at No. 9 and Brockway reenters at No. 10 after a tumultuous week that saw six of the 10 places change hands.
After No. 1 Karns City (8-0), No. 2 Clarion (7-1) and No. 3 DuBois (6-2) remain in place, but the only other team to hold the same ranking spot from last week is No. 8 Elk County Catholic (7-1).
Thanks to Union’s stunning 32-7 win over then No. 4 Ridgway, the Elkers (7-1) drop two places to No. 6 with Redbank Valley (7-0) and Clearfield (6-2) each jumping up a spot to Nos. 4 and 5 respectively. Moniteau (5-3) moved up two spots to No. 8 followed by Punxsy and Brockway rounding out the Top 10.
The big matchup in the Top 10 this week involves Clarion and Redbank Valley with the winner claiming the KSAC Small School Division title and the No. 2 seed in the District 9 Class A playoffs.
Another Top 10 matchup involves Karns City and Punxsutawney with the KSAC Large School title at stake. A Karns City win gives the Gremlins the title outright, but a Chucks win coupled with a Moniteau loss to St. Marys would give the title outright to Punxsutawney. If Punxsutawney and Moniteau both win, then Karns City, Moniteau, and Punxsy share the title.
