Daniel Q. Shindledecker

Daniel Q ShindledeckerDaniel Q. Shindledecker, Sandy Lake, passed away at home Thursday (3-9-2017) after an extended illness. He was 74.

Born July 11, 1942, in Reynoldsville, Pa., he was a son of William Lee and Susan Elizabeth Patterson Shindledecker.

Dan was a 1960 graduate of DuBois (Pa.) High School. He was a Navy veteran and served on the Destroyer USS McCaffrey.

Dan worked for more than 29 years at Sharon Steel. Following its closure, he attended the New Castle School of Trades, becoming certified in HVAC.

He retired from the Lowe’s Home Improvement Center of New Castle in 2007 after 10 years of service.

Dan was a guy everyone knew and appreciated. His love of life, his caring demeanor and dedication to his fellow man was evident in how he lived his life. From family and friends, to a total stranger, Dan was always ready to assist others in any way he could. His philosophy in life was, “I’m just along for the ride.”

He was outgoing and loved to learn new things along the way.

Dan loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden. He also loved woodworking.

His wife, the former Brigitte Dudei, whom he married June 15, 1970, survives at home.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Lori L. Woods and her husband Jack, Hermitage; and a son, Brian D. Shindledecker and his wife Karen, Emsworth, Pa; two granddaughters, Kaylen Woods and Anya Shindledecker; and a sister, Carol Donahue of DuBois.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Jeanne Shindledecker, preceded him in death.

Memorials in Dan’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Calling Hours are from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Sunday, March 12, 2017, in the SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service are from 11am Monday, March 13, 2017 in the funeral home with Rev. Robert S. Mohr, pastor of Lakeview Church of God, officiating.
