Daphne Grace Richter

daphne richterWith sadness of heart yet joy in our soul; Daphne Grace Richter, 90 has entered the church triumphant to receive the crown of righteousness promised by her savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Penn Highlands Hospital in Brookville.

Daphne was born on May 18, 1925 in St. Neots, England to Walter and Annie Anderson Wren. She married her wartime sweetheart William H. Richter on October 10, 1944 in St. Neots. A wartime bride, she came to America to be with her husband in 1945, living briefly in Connellsville, PA. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1986.

Daphne resided most of her life in Harmony/Zelienople, PA where she raised her children in the love of Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Harmony/Zelienople United Methodist Church for many years worshipping her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved her birds and flowers and enjoyed nothing more than hiking in the woods. Her most joyous times were when she and her husband travelled in their motorhome. Their favorite places to travel were to Cook Forest, PA and Letchworth State Park in New York.

In 1986 her husband of 44 years passed away. It was then she took up the hobby of writing and being published in Guideposts Magazine for an article entitled: “Cheater the Greeter,” about a local dog who was always the first to great people at a small rural church.

In 2005 Daphne moved to Marienville, PA and was a member of the Marienville United Methodist church. She loved spotting deer, driving around the forest areas, and making jewelry.
She loved her family intensely, was a tremendous prayer warrior, and guided children and grandchildren in the ways of her Lord. Her staunch English character brought her through many trials and tribulations. Her faith has now brought her home.

She is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Kraus of Easton, MD, and a son, Pastor Dan (Pam) Richter of Marienville, PA. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Wendy Kraus of Easton, MD and Danielle Richter of DuBois, PA; two grandsons, John Kraus of Easton, MD and William Richter of Edinboro, PA; and a great-grandson, Liam Richter of Edinboro, PA.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Draper, Joan Pope, and Kathyrn Twigden, a brother Wally Wren, and a half sister Eva Griffiths.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 12, 2016 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at the Furlong Funeral Home, 140 Cherry St. Marienville, PA and Wednesday April 13 from 10 – 11 am at the Marienville United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 am with Rev. Pat Lenox, Kane district United Methodist Superintendent officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Peters United Church of Christ Cemetery in Zelienople, PA.

The family requests memorials be made to Marienville United Methodist Church.
